Methodology
How we verify what's on Tankboard.
What gets included
A company appears on Tankboard only if it actually pitched on Shark Tank. ABC's official Shark Tank product list is our primary verification source. Sharkary, All Shark Tank Products, Shark Tank Blog, public Kaggle datasets, company websites, press articles, and public interviews are used as supporting sources.
What 'reported sales' means
"Reported" means a public source has cited the figure (founder interview, press article, podcast). It does not mean the figure was independently audited. Private company numbers are often estimates, and we label them accordingly.
What 'current status' means
Operating means the company appears to still be selling. Shut down means publicly reported closure. Acquired means publicly reported acquisition. Rebranded means name/identity change with the same business. Unknown means no recent public signal — we will not guess.
What 'deal closed' means
Many on-air handshakes never close after filming due to due diligence. We mark deals as Closed, Did not close, or Unknown based on public statements. If sources conflict, we choose Unknown.
Why some fields are unknown
We do not fabricate data. If revenue, ownership, or status is not publicly verified, the field shows "Unknown" or "Not publicly verified" rather than a fabricated number.
How confidence scores work
- 80–100 (High): verified by multiple strong sources.
- 50–79 (Medium): at least one strong source or multiple weaker sources.
- 0–49 (Low): conflicting, weak, or outdated public information.
Image rights
We do not scrape copyrighted images. Each image carries a usage status (Approved, Needs review, Placeholder, User-uploaded, Public domain, Licensed) and a credit line. Where rights are unclear, we use a branded placeholder.
Submitting corrections
Every company page has a "Submit a correction" form. Submissions go to a review queue and are not auto-published. Please include a source URL.
